CBPA would like to wish all of its members a very Happy Thanksgiving. California is a great state, we live in a wonderful country, and we really do have a lot to be thankful for. ARTICLES ON SPLIT ROLL EFFORT

As we reported last week, the powerful California Teachers Association has submitted two propositions for title and summary that would undo the protections of Prop. 13 and create a split roll. Here are a few articles on the subject:

CALIFORNIA IS BROKE (AGAIN)

The non-partisan California Legislative Analyst has released a review of the state’s fiscal situation and the outlook is not good.

“California’s General Fund revenues and expenditures shows that the state must address a General Fund budget problem of $20.7 billion between now and the time the Legislature enacts a 2010‑11 state budget plan. The budget problem consists of a $6.3 billion projected deficit for 2009‑10 and a $14.4 billion gap between projected revenues and spending in 2010‑11. Addressing this large shortfall will require painful choices—on top of the difficult choices the Legislature made earlier this year.”

INDUSTRY LEADER IS NAMED “MOST EFFECTIVE” BY LEGISLATORS

Our very own Rex Hime was recently named as one of the “Most Effective” business lobbyists in Sacramento. Hime, President and CEO of CBPA, represents all the major commercial real estate groups active in California’s Capitol. Hime and CBPA was one of only two associations in the mix with a bunch of private lobbying firms. The survey, distributed to legislators by Capitol Weekly, asked Legislators to name the best lobbyists in a number of areas. Hime was very surprised and honored when he found out he had been chosen for recognition out of the thousands of lobbyists working in Sacramento. Click here to read the full story.

ICSC SILICON VALLEY ALLIANCE PROGRAM

Set in the newly renovated Retro Dome, this is an opportunity to listen in and interact with the Honorable Mayors of Cupertino, San Jose, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale as they opine about retail development/redevelopment in their respective cities. Please join us on December 3 as Moderator Solomon Ets-Hokin, Senior Vice President of Retail Services for Colliers International, steers this esteemed panel as they wind-down the path of retail development/redevelopment opportunities, city services, strategic planning, economic impact and stimulus to name a few pertinent issues of the day. The Alliance Program is an ICSC forum for the public and private sectors to network, share ideas and discuss development issues and mutually desired retail projects. Positive relationship building is paramount for successful development. Click here for more information.
